Methodology

How we evaluate programs and fitness resources

Forty and Functional reviews products through the lens of a desk worker over 40: limited time, accumulated stiffness, and a need for realistic progression.

Desk-worker fit

We look for relevance to posture, hips, back, mobility, beginner strength, and routines that can fit around long workdays.

Clarity and structure

We favor programs that explain what to do next rather than relying on vague motivation or unsupported claims.

Progression and caution

We consider whether a routine can be scaled and whether it avoids pushing readers into aggressive work too early.

Tradeoffs

Every product has limits. We document who it is best for, who should skip it, and what to consider before clicking.

Affiliate independence

Affiliate status does not remove tradeoff notes or guarantee inclusion. We do not use fake star ratings.

Updates

Review pages are revisited when product coverage, site structure, or editorial standards change.
